Apukka Resort prepares its own early-winter trails from stored snow and snow cannons, so this safari can run while the landscape is still turning white. After a driving and safety briefing you ride 15 to 25 kilometres, an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half of driving, with a break on the way.

Apukka Resort does not offer solo riding on these tours. Two adults always share a snowmobile and can swap drivers at halfway, so each of you drives roughly half of the stated time. On the night tour that still means about an hour at the handlebars for each rider, on the wilderness and early-winter safaris around 40 to 45 minutes. If driving time for yourself is the priority, compare the long safaris, where solo options exist.
On most snowmobile tours in Rovaniemi the driver is liable for damage up to a deductible, and an insurance or waiver to lower it costs extra. Apukka Resort's night tour lists the self-liability insurance among its inclusions. The tour covers 20 to 40 km in the dark with a campfire break, starts at age 15 and is aimed at adults. Apukka Resort prepares early-winter trails with snow stored from the previous season and with snow cannons. Drivers must be 18 with a licence that is valid in Finland. All instructions are given in English, so basic English is required. Transfers from Rovaniemi city centre or Santa Claus Village to the resort and back are included, along with the thermal overall, boots, woollen socks and mittens.
Drivers need a valid category B car licence, and several operators accept only the physical card. A photo of it, a digital or a temporary licence is not accepted. Pack the card itself. Where a listing states an age, drivers must be at least 18; one small-group tour asks for drivers aged 20 or older.
Children who ride in a sled behind the guide sit still and get cold faster than the driver. Give them extra layers; one family tour uses a heated sleigh for children under 1.40 m.
